Usually, dance is set to music. That idea was flipped around when I was asked to set my music to dance. These are talented dancers from all around the world, in the time of Corona, simply dancing in silence in their surroundings.
I am very proud of this project and spent many an hour trying to match up their movements with my Central Star music and deciding which pieces fit with the "choreography". I changed the interpretation of the music based on the energy of the dancers.
After hours of planning and practicing, I recorded it in one take with my eyes glued to the video in order to sync up my playing with their movements. Beyond fun and rewarding for my highly detailed, creative, and observant brain!
This project was so rewarding, as it felt like pure creativity in its finest form. It speaks to our shared humanity- each of us living through a bizarre time and coping in the best way that we knew how, strangers uniting virtually and creating a unified piece of art.
